Alianzas first connected with Magdiel Lopez Soriano, Field Livestock Specialist from the Swine Extension program, back in February.

In their initial meeting, Alianzas Dir. Gerardo R. Martinez and Soriano discussed developing a 4H Club for Swine Production, aiming to target the 2nd generation Latino youth. To gain a deeper understanding of Magdiel’s role and the industry, Gerardo attended his workshop “Show Me Sow Production” on April 29 at the Missouri Pork Association in Columbia, MO.

This free, bilingual workshop hosted by Soriano focused on strengthening sow production practices and supporting the state’s diverse swine workforce. The event delivered practical, research-based information that can be applied directly to commercial sow farms while helping bridge communication gaps within farm teams.

Several TN Visa workers came to participate in this all-day workshop and left very grateful for what they learned.

From this experience, Alianzas will be supporting Soriano in his upcoming workshop series on swine production through Extension. Additionally, Gerardo and Magdiel will be meeting with 4H Dir. Dr. Tanner to present their idea and a work plan for future collaboration.
