Focus On Kids

Parents who are divorcing or separating face unique challenges in parenting their children while living apart. The purpose of the Focus on Kids program is to help parents learn how to nurture and support their children through the divorce/separation process, and to help parents develop ways to effectively work together as co-parents.

Family Nutrition Education Program

The Family Nutrition Education Program (FNEP) focuses primarily on families with children and other limited-resource households, helping participants build the knowledge and confidence needed to make healthier choices at home. 

Through classes and community partnerships, MU Extension educators provide practical guidance on topics such as: 

  • Planning healthy meals on a budget. 
  • Preparing nutritious foods at home. 
  • Practicing safe food handling. 
  • Building healthy habits for parents and children.

The program uses evidence-based nutrition education curricula used nationally through FNEP, ensuring participants receive trusted information that can support long-term health.

Farmer’s Market

MU Extension supports Missouri farmers’ markets through resources on starting, operating, and finding local markets.

Key resources include the Missouri Grown directory, the Missouri Farmers Market Association listing, and MU Extension’s own local county office resources.

  • Missouri Grown Directory: The most comprehensive listing of farmers’ markets and local food producers across Missouri.  
  • Missouri Farmers Market Association: A directory of member markets and producers, featuring numerous locations, such as Ava, Marshfield, Neosho, New Melle, and Sedalia.  
  • MU Extension Local Offices: Contact local county extension offices for specific information on regional markets, particularly in areas like Cedar and Douglas Counties.  

Grow your Farm

Grow Your Farm is designed for beginning farmers and ranchers in Missouri. It features an eight-week course with evening workshops, on-farm tours, and one-on-one technical assistance to teach farm management, business planning, and sustainable production strategies.

Key aspects of the program include 

  • Curriculum: Covers farm management, legal and risk management, budgeting, and marketing strategies. 
  • Networking: Includes on-farm field days to meet other local farmers. 
  • Support: Part of the Missouri Beginning Farmers and Ranchers program which offers tailored advice to grow agricultural businesses.

Garden for Everyone

MU Extension provides extensive “Garden for Everyone” resources focusing on community gardening, food security and horticultural education across Missouri.

Programs include the Community Gardening Toolkit for starting gardens, the Garden ‘n Grow program for youth, and the Extension Master Gardener program for volunteer training.
