On June 18th, 2009, Alianzas facilitated a Cultural Awareness Training targeted towards medical interpreters at the Migrant Whole Health Outreach Center in Kennett. Those in attendance included: Regional UME staff, community partners, and volunteers interpreters. Twenty-two participants completed the end of workshop survey and when asked if their level of cultural understanding increased because of attending the workshop, 14 strongly agreed and 6 agreed. In addition, when asked if “the cultural awareness methods to support Hispanic/Latino residents were clear and concise,” 13 strongly agreed and 8 agreed. Overall, feedback about the workshop was good and the awareness and knowledge gained by participants will support continued collaborations and outreach efforts with Hispanic populations in this region.
